Bootleg Summary/ Analysis

In Karen Blumenthal’s riveting novel about the crime of the prohibition and what it lead to was never worth the banning of alcohol and the good intentions. This book really takes you on the adventurous times that were known as the prohibition. Bootleg really taught me a lot about the corrupt nature of almost everyone at the time. A lot of the corrupt nature that is mentioned in the book was from politicians that said they supported prohibition but then the same night would go out and drink. This book takes an interesting perspective because of how a lot of shows and movies view this lawless time period from the eyes of the mobsters. In Bootleg it is more a birds eye view and it is interesting and gives the ability to connect the dots. Something that this book also does very well is show how prohibition affected the lower classes instead of just the focus on the elite. I would not recommend this book to anyone who does not like reading a textbook because at some parts of the book it almost feels like I am reading from a textbook.
